1 in 8 Billion (1in8b, Official) · Life Simulation Game · Who will you be born as?

Features: 1 in 8 Billion offers a highly immersive, text-based life simulation engine that utilizes real-world demographic data from 172 countries. Players are randomly assigned a birth identity based on actual global statistics, including wealth, life expectancy, health status, and societal conditions. The game features dynamic branching narrative paths, interactive life choices, and a sophisticated simulation model that reacts to the socio-economic reality of your assigned nation, providing a sobering and thought-provoking look at the variance of human existence.

History: Developed as a passion project to bridge the gap between data science and narrative storytelling, 1in8b was created to challenge the player's perspective on privilege and global inequality. By moving beyond traditional game mechanics, the developers sought to visualize the "lottery of birth," turning dry statistical datasets into a deeply personal and emotional journey that highlights the diverse circumstances of humanity.

Use cases: The platform serves as a powerful educational tool for sociology and geography classrooms to discuss global inequality and the impact of systemic factors on individual outcomes. It is also frequently used by writers seeking inspiration for diverse character development, as well as by casual gamers looking for a unique, thought-provoking experience that encourages empathy and reflection on how location and chance shape a life.
